OUR LOVE WILL STILL BE THERE
CHRIS DUNCAN

OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, JUNE 29, 6:00 - 9:00PM
EXHIBITION DATES: JUNE 29 - JULY 29, 2017

Romer Young Gallery is pleased to present, OUR LOVE WILL STILL BE THERE, the gallery's first solo exhibition with Oakland artist Chris Duncan. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, June 29, 2017, from 6-9pm.

OUR LOVE WILL STILL BE THERE combines a series of earth rubbings the artist made during a recent trip to Zion National Park as well as a series of long term sun exposures made in and on windows, skylights, and rooftops in Oakland and Los Angeles, California. The works are steeped in processes reliant on the passing of time and the effect of natural forces as primary mark making devices. Delicately layered with the artist's own subtle interventions - hand-painting and sewn areas - the poetic works allude to historical aspects of painting and mark making, while at the same time, honoring the power and humbling nature of time, the sun, the wind and the rain.

I believe that in years to come
When the mountains have crumbled to dust
And all the oceans have all run dry
And the cars in the street turn to rust.
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there.
When the rain from the sky don't fall
And the stars they don't shine at night
When all the nations have made their wars
And the soldiers have all had their fight.
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there.
I'll always love you
No matter what comes in our path
I'll always need you
Like I have done in the past

I'll always be there
In your ups and in your downs
I'll even love you if the world stops going 'round.
So when the days and the nights are joined
And the baby does no longer cry
When man has been to the ocean depth
And reached out his arms for the sky.
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there.
I'll always love you
No matter what comes in our path
I'll always need you
Like I have done in the past
I'll always be there

In your ups and in your downs
I'll even love you if the world stops going 'round.
So when the days and the nights are joined
And a baby does no longer cry
When man has been to the ocean depths
And reached out his arms for the sky.
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there
Our love will still be there.
