New Work, will feature a series of seven new paintings on linen. The exhibition will be on view Saturday, March 4th through April 5th, 2023 with an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, March 4th, 1-4pm.

White’s beautiful and understated paintings on linen are, quite simply, compelling. Her formal restraint and precision prompt a different way of seeing, and elicit a pure, emotional reaction. The paintings engage with painting’s most basic elements: color, shape, tone and composition. The artist paints freehand, hard-edged, essential forms and planes of color that conjure landscapes, bodies, or architecture - not entirely familiar, but not entirely foreign either. They are as much “windows into another world of shifting space” as they are moody openings into the subtleties of this world. The paintings veer toward the monochromatic, yet evoke an expansive range of temperatures and sensations. From a seemingly singular, muted color family, White creates an intensity and diversity of hues. Each painting practices a kind of slow reveal. Together, the unassuming works invite an intimate experience, while simultaneously exerting a physical presence on the viewer that is ambiguous and unexpectedly expansive. Sarah Hotchkiss said it best: "Nancy White's paintings reach, for me, the platonic ideal of abstraction."

Nancy White’s (b. 1948) work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Jancar Jones Gallery, San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston, MA; and Takada Gallery, San Francisco, CA.
