NEW WORK
Nancy White

March 2 - April 21, 2018

Romer Young Gallery is pleased to present New Work, an exhibition of new paintings by San Francisco artist Nancy White. The exhibition will be on view Friday March 2nd through Saturday April 21st with an opening reception for the artist on Friday, March 2nd, 6-9pm.

White’s hard-won paintings arrive from the artist’s rigorous engagement with painting’s most basic elements: color, shape and composition. In her small, modest works, White almost eliminates value contrast. The resulting paintings are nearly monochrome, yet, paradoxically, the images have an ambiguous and deeper space. From a seemingly singular color family she makes multiple variants of hue emerge. Her color evokes different temperatures and sensations; the spectral effects of these color explorations belie her medium.

Nancy White’s work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at Jancar Jones Gallery, San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston, MA; and Takada Gallery, San Francisco, CA. Group exhibitions include Transmitter Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; the Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto; UC Berkeley Museum of Art, Berkeley CA; 2nd Floor Projects, San Francisco CA; the San Jose Institute of Contemporary, San Jose, CA; Higgins Art Gallery, Barnstable, MA; the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, OR; the Los Gatos Art Museum, Los Gatos, CA; Busdori, Tokyo, Japan; and Paris Concret, Paris, France. Her work can be found in the collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, Fine Art Museum of San Francisco and the Crocker Museum to name a few.
